Folic acid is an essential B vitamin also known as Vitaimin B9. It is required for amino acid metabolism as well as to carry one-carbon groups used for methylation reactions and nuceic acid synthesis. Deficiency of folic acid can cause anemia.
Our Folic Acid ELISA is designed for detection and quantitation of folic acid in plasma, serum, or lysates. This assay is a competitive ELISA where samples and an anti-folic acid antibody are added to a plate coated with a folic acid conjugate. The sample and conjugate compete for antibody binding, which generates a reverse curve. Samples with high folic acid levels will bind to most of the antibody, which gets washed away and results in a low OD, while samples with low folic acid levels will leave more antibody available to bind to the conjugate coated on the plate, producing a higher signal.
